37 arrested during crime prevention operation
The police clamped down on criminal activities in the Eersterust area that lead to the arrest of 37 alleged criminals.
Eersterust police arrested 37 people in an anti-crime swoop at the weekend.
Police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo said the operation started on Friday and continued until the early hours of Sunday morning.
“During the operation a 44-year-old resident was arrested for alleged drunk driving on Saturday at 22:30. It is alleged that the resident was driving recklessly in St Joseph Avenue in Eersterust,” he said.
He said the police pulled him over and noticed that he was intoxicated.
“The police immediately arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol. The majority of the alleged criminals were arrested for liquor-related offences as well as road traffic offences.”
He said most of the arrested people already appeared in court on various charges.
