Man shot and killed in bakkie
A man was shot and killed in his bakkie in Monavoni on Tuesday night.
A man, believed to have been a taxi owner, was shot and killed in his vehicle in Monavoni, Centurion on Tuesday night.
An eyewitness, who was at the scene at the corner of Tulip and Louise Streets shortly after the shooting, told Rekord he heard the first gunshots just after 19:00.
The witness, who prefers to stay anonymous, said he immediately went to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of a man behind the steering wheel.
“The man had several shot wounds to his body,” the witness said. “The bakkie’s hazards were flickering and a cellphone was ringing on the dashboard. There was cash on the passenger seat and bullet holes in the door.”
The witness said he believed the first shots were fired a few meters from where the bakkie was found.
He claimed he found several empty bullet shells, believed to be those of a 9 mm pistol and a R5 rifle, scattered on the ground.
Captain Louise Steynberg, police spokesperson, confirmed the shooting.
She, however, could not provide more information as details surrounding the shooting was at the time still sketchy.
