The bail hearing of a man accused of killing a seven-year-old girl in Mamelodi drew an angry crowd on Wednesday.
Residents of Phomolong Informal Settlement, Extension 6, sang songs outside the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court, demanding that Frans Kanyane (50) be refused bail. They were joined by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters and the African National Congress Women’s League.
Kanyane was allegedly fighting with his wife over sex earlier this month when he fired shots. One of them allegedly hit and killed Nthabiseng Ramoroka.
Charmaine Seboya, member of the Economic Freedom Fighters said: “We are gathered here today to make sure that the court does not grant the suspect bail. He should remain in police custody.”
Alpheus Tefo, father of Nthabiseng, said: “I have accepted what happened to my family. All we want is justice and to move on with our lives.”
