Free Wi-Fi popular across townships
Free Wi-Fi has been provided to various schools, community halls and libraries in Pretoria.
Pupils from Pretoria’s western township schools of Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane and Atteridgeville are reaping the rewards of free Wi-Fi in the townships. Free Wi-Fi has been provided to various schools, community halls and libraries in Pretoria.
Rekord spoke to some of the pupils who have been using Tshwane free Wi-Fi since it was launched last year. Many said it was good to have access to the free 250 megabite, which was offered daily. Pupils and residents said the Wi-Fi was helping them to accomplish some of their goals.
Rose Masemola, a pupil at Soshanguve High School, said she started using free Wi-Fi late last year and it has been helpful to her. “I often go to the Wi-Fi hotspot with my tablet and cellphone and mainly use it to do research and also to Google information that is helpful to my studies,” she said.
One of the pupils at Saulridge Secondary School in Atteridgeville, Nancy Mothiba, said she was delighted about free Wi-Fi access and it was easy for her to connect at the Wi-Fi zones. Mothiba said the free Wi-Fi has changed her life dramatically since she started using it earlier this year. “It has helped change my life. I can now freely do researches of universities, courses and even use the internet to compile information for my school assignments,” she said.
Gift Ngove, a small business owner in Hammanskraal, said he often used the free Wi-Fi to research various business aspects. “Don’t forget it is important that as an aspiring businessman I keep myself updated about business information. I also check courses that I can study in order to up my business skills. So far I access it at the community hall. Once I am there, even if I am outside I can access it,” he said.
