Sports highlights 13 – 15 Feb

Your sport highlights for the weekend.

This weekend will be jam-packed with sports events that will keep you glued to the TV. So much so, that your wife will have to take over the braai duties.

Let’s start off with the biggest event this weekend, the ICC Cricket World Cup. The very first ball will be bowled at 00:00 on Saturday morning in what is arguably the most anticipated Cricket World Cup yet. New Zealand is looking to start off their World Cup campaign with a win on home soil against Sri-Lanka. New Zealand are favourites to win the match and are in the mix for the prestigious trophy.

Tournament favourites Australia will be up against England on 14 February at 05:30. The following match will see another tournament favourite, if they can hold their nerves – South Africa against Zimabwe on 15 February at 03:00. On the local front, the rivalry between the Titans and the Cape Cobras will continue as they battle it out for the Momentum One Day Cup at Sahara Park, Newlands on 13 February at 15:00. The following day the two provinces will clash again, this time at the start of the SupeRugby season at 19:10 on Loftus Versfeld.

The first round will see all SA teams in action. The Lions will be hosting the Hurricanes tonight (Friday) at 19:10. The Hurricanes have built up a good track record against the Lions, winning with bonus points in the previous two encounters at Ellis Park.

The Sharks will host the Cheetahs on Saturday (14 February) at 17:05. Previous encounters between these two teams have been a rather up-and-down affair and it might prove difficult to call the victorious side in this match.

Be sure to expect a few upsets this weekend in what is to be one entertaining Valentine’s weekend!
