Load shedding expected on Friday

Eskom has announced that there is a chance of power cuts on Friday.

Eskom has announced that there is a medium to high risk of load shedding on Friday, as the system is constrained and vulnerable.

Eskom will communicate later today whether load shedding will be implemented over the weekend. We appreciate your assistance in using electricity sparingly”, according to their Facebook page.

According to Eskom’s Twitter page, there is a medium probability of load shedding on Thursday, dependent on the performance of the power plant.

They continue to urge electricity consumers to switch off any unnecessary appliances.

Eskom has issued a warning that there is a medium risk of load shedding during Wednesday, shifting to a very high probability in the evening.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe, says if any of the generating units break down they might be forced to implement.

Consumers are still urged to switch off any unnecessary use of electrical appliances to avoid power cuts throughout the week.

Unit six at Eskom’s newly-built Medupi Power Station in Limpopo produced power for the first time on Monday.

“The electricity flowing into the grid marks a new beginning,” Eskom  Chief Executive Tshediso Matona said in a statement.

Eskom  hopes that the newly built Medupi Power Station will bring some stability to the already pressured grid.

No load shedding can be expected for Tuesday thus far, but Eskom remains adamant that consumers should try to use as little power as possible to prevent power cuts at night.
