Americans try South African snacks
Viral video shows Americans trying South African snacks for the first time.
A video has gone viral, showing a few Americans trying some of South Africa’s most beloved snacks, and what they think of it.
Called “Americans Try South African Snacks”, the video was made by BuzzFeed and is a no-holds-barred review of some of the things South Africans hold most dear.
The video is one in a range of “Americans try…” videos, where a group of young Americans are invited to give their honest opinions of different foods from across the world.
The snacks on offer range from good old Ouma rusks and Rock Shandy, to droëwors, biltong, Peck’s Anchovette fish paste spread and koeksisters.
One reviewer described the look of droëwors as “sausage that your grandma forgot about”. Another two reviewers described the droëwors as “tree bark exterior with a nice moss interior”.
Though some of the reviewers fell in love with koeksisters, two described it as “dog food”.
The video is a wonderful, and unbiased review of some of the snacks that have made South Africa famous, and will definitely provide a few laughs on a blue Monday.
