A total of 77 people were arrested in the past week when the Tshwane metro police embarked on a crime prevention operation from 26 February to this past Thursday, spokesperson Superintendent Kuki Tshabalala said.
She said 26 of the said criminals were held for dealing and possession of drugs.
“The suspects were arrested in Rosslyn, Wierdapark, Eersterust and Olievenhoutbosch. In their possession, they had various drugs such as dagga, heroin, crystal meth, nyaope and CAT,” Tshabalala said.
She said in Rietfontein, R20 000 worth of illegal cigarettes were confiscated, to be investigated by the South African Police Service.
“A total of 47 illegal car guards and window washers were arrested for pedestrian source of danger.”
In addition, four people were arrested for speeding, with the highest speed recorded at 211km/h.
“Altogether 5 570 traffic fines were issued and 24 accidents were observed,” Tshabalala said.
