Police were on Monday no closer to catching the criminals who stole tablet computers from a high school in Pretoria about two weeks ago.
Police spokesperson Constable Makgotso Mphenyeke said no arrests had been made. “Investigations are continuing. We are still hunting for the suspects.”
A total of 40 tablets were taken from the school after two security guards at the school were overpowered.
The school’s deputy principal, Mapula Seroto, said pupils’ school work was suffering as a result.
She expressed frustration at the apparent lack of progress in the investigation of the crime despite the tracking devices the tablets had been fitted with.
Seroto said the tablets were also protected with passwords and PIN codes.
“There’s a good chance that the stolen tablets will connect to the internet again — either automatically or when a careless thief logs on. These tablets have a GPS device that gives away their location.”
