Metro police still investigating assault

TMPD still investigating allegations of assault at licensing centre.

Claims that customers were recently assaulted at the Centurion licensing centre are still being investigated, the Tshwane metro police said on Wednesday.

“The investigation has not been completed, but we want to finalise this matter as soon as we can,” said spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

“Whether or not anyone was assaulted and whether or not they will be charged will be determined by the outcome of the investigation.”

A woman, who wishes to remain unnamed, claimed the staff at the licensing centre violently removed her from the building, assaulting her in the process. She said this happened after they falsely accused her of filming another altercation between staff of the licensing centre and customers.

“A staff member has now also laid an assault charge against me. Both of us are scheduled to appear in Pretoria Central Magistrate’s Court on Monday next week,” said the woman.

This was confirmed by Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu.

DA Ward Councillor Peter Sutton, who deals with the Centurion licensing centre, said investigations into matters like these take time. “We hope to get a response soon so the matter can be settled.”
