Tabane Amos Kau (27) has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for armed robbery.
Kau was arrested by Loate police for robbing a Winterveldt woman of her valuables, including cash. He was sentenced at the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates Court this week.
Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said the 26-year-old Winterveldt woman was waiting at the roadside for a taxi, on her way to work, when Kau robbed her.
“Kau approached the woman, held her at gunpoint and instructed her to lie down. He took her handbag containing two cellphones, a wallet with R2 000 and bank cards,” said Constable Chabangu.
He pleaded guilty to charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
