Teamwork is crucial in the fight against crime, says the new acting Loate police station commissioner, Colonel Jan Nkomo.
“Residents are concerned about crime. We are equally concerned as the police. We are calling on residents to work together with the police in the fight against crime,” he told Rekord in an interview this week.
Col Nkomo was appointed acting station commander after the departure of Colonel Page Dibetle who took up a station commander post at Temba police station in Hammanskraal.
Loate police spokesperson Petunia Chabangu said Nkomo had always been a dedicated policeman and it came as no surprise when in 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Colonel, 28 years into his career.
Nkomo had worked at a number of police stations, including Atteridgeville, Lehlabile, Brits, Wonderboomkop, Temba as well as Rietgat.
Asked about corruption in the police, Nkomo said: “We shall leave no stone unturned in rooting out corrupt officials in the area. In fact, if it happens at any police station in the country, people must report the matter to the station commander. We will take the necessary disciplinary action.”
