School brings joy to elderly

The Pretoria Chinese School recently visited the Hong Ning Chinese Aged Home.

Representatives of the Pretoria Chinese School in Wingate Park recently visited the Hong Ning Chinese Aged Home in Johannesburg and was received by general manager Timothy Sam.

The visitors comprised 2015 headboy Fabio Ascensao and headgirl Gabriella Pesquito, as well as the 2015 deputy heads Kaylan Reddy and Olivia de Kok. They were accompanied by the school director Jerrold Law.

They brought along toiletries and care packages for the residents, who were most grateful.

The pupils felt honoured to have met the oldest resident, Ting Kwai Wu.

She is 106 years old, but still active and mobile and even assists with gardening work at the home.

Residents of the home said they looked forward to the next visit, when pupils would also organise a traditional Chinese dance and song performance for them.
