Man arrested for stolen car and unlicensed firearms
Police have arrested a man after two unlicensed guns were found in his possession in Atteridgeville.
Atteridgeville police have arrested a man found in possession of a stolen car and unlicensed firearms, police spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said on Monday.
He said the man was arrested on Sunday around 15:50 on the corner of W.F. Nkomo and Tlou streets.
Mufamadi said police officers were driving behind a white Toyota Corolla when they saw a beer bottle being flung from the car.
“The police signaled the driver to pull over. As soon as the driver got out of the vehicle, he held out money to the police officers as they approached him,” he said.
Mufamadi said police noticed a gun tucked in the front of the driver’s pants. A tussle broke out between the officer and the driver as the driver refused to hand over the gun, Mufamadi said.
“The police officer managed to disarm the suspect who suffered injuries and was sent to hospital for medical care.”
Upon searching the vehicle, police found another unlicensed firearm, Mufamadi said. He said police discovered the Toyota Corolla was reported stolen in Brooklyn last August.
“The suspect was arrested and his passengers fled the scene. He will appear in court soon on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”
