21 pupils arrested for looting
Twenty-one high school pupils were arrested for looting a mega chain store in the city during an anti-Israeli demonstration.
Nearly 21 high school pupils from Mamelodi were arrested on Tuesday afternoon for theft and malicious damage to property in the Pretoria city centre.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Anne Poortman said the pupils looted Woolworths chain store at Sammy Marks in the city during an anti-Israeli demonstration.
“According to a pupil, they are all anti-Israeli activists and they are against the retailer selling Israeli products, ” she said.
Poortman said the arrested pupils were all between the ages of 16 and 18. “They will be released into the care of their parents pending a court date.”
Damage to the building and theft amounted to an estimated R200 000.
No shots were fired and there were no reported injuries.
