Man disappears after crash
A man, bleeding and injured after a horror crash, leaves the scene.
The Daniel family in Hennopspark had a long night on Monday after a car ploughed into their fence just after 19:00.
“When the driver of the car got out my dad immediately went up to see if he was okay. His face was bloody as he had hit his head against the windscreen,” said Moné Daniel.
“As my dad and the man spoke, he reached into his car, got his cellphone and a black bag, and simply left. Copwatch, who was already on scene at the time, tried to stop the man, but he left, and we lost sight of him.”
An extensive search was launched for the driver. Security agencies and the local community policing forums (CPF) searched across Centurion in a bid to find the man.
“We were crawling through bushes and drains for three hours. At one stage some of us nearly fell into the Hennops river while looking for the man,” said Chris Evans, head of the Lyttelton Sector 7 CPF, who was part of the search.
Eventually, some patrollers found the man on the corner of Jim van der Merwe Street and Von Willich Road, close to the NG Kerk Sesmylspruit.
“When we found the man his face was bloody, and he seemed on edge. We had a medic with us who helped stabilise the man. We phoned Emer-G-Med who helped the man and took him to hospital,” said Evans.
Braam Kruger, spokesperson for Emer-G-Med confirmed the man was stable. “We took him straight to Kalafong hospital where he is being treated.”
Daniel said: “A special mention needs to be made of Alpheus of Copwatch, of Arrie van den Dussen of the CPF who assisted us, and to the people of Centurion and the People Who Live in Centurion Facebook page, all of whom assisted us during the night.”
