Police arrested two men after they were found in possession of suspected stolen copper wires with a street value of R30 000 on Tuesday in Waltloo, police said.
Silverton spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said two suspects, a 31-year-old Cameroonian national and a 26-year-old South African were arrested after they were caught in possession of suspected stolen copper wires at a scrapyard in Waltloo.
“Police got a tip-off from their sources about a scrap dealer in Waltloo and they immediately organized an operation to search the place. Police arrived at the scrapyard and recovered 270,8 kg of copper wire with a street value of about R30 000,” he said.
Sepato said the two men were arrested at the scene and taken to Silverton police station. They will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate court on Wednesday for possession of suspected stolen property.
