Volunteers help pupils with schoolwork

Volunteers give extra classes for gr. 4 - 7 pupils of Zamintuthuko Primary School.

Seven volunteers from the Touching Souls Academy in Mamelodi West have started giving primary school pupils free extra lessons to help them with their school work and pass rates at the end of the year.

The volunteers assist the gr. 4 – 7 pupils with Maths and English and extra classes are on Saturdays and during school holidays.

The Touching Souls Academy’s extra lessons was officially launched at Zamintuthuko Primary School on Saturday.

Chairperson, Thulie Lemboyane said: “The volunteers are going to help pupils with homework. Our aim is to increase the pass rate of pupils in our community schools.”

“We urge parents to allow children to attend the Saturday classes as it would enhance their ability to work in class and help them with their schoolwork,” said Lemboyane. Head of department for gr. 4 – 7, Gelane Mahlangu said: “We are very happy and touched by the volunteers who are willing to help our pupils with their school work for free.”

“People always want money, but volunteers from Touching Souls Academy never wanted a cent; they just dedicate their time to help the pupils. They have a passion for kids. They also help us as teachers reach our goal,” said Mahlangu.

A gr.7-pupil Thembiso Mtshweni (13) said: “I am very happy to attend extra classes. It helps me a lot, and I am confident that I will pass with flying colours.”
