Tshwane metro accounts allegedly incorrect

Block of flats apparently received an incorrect Tshwane metro account amounting to R71 000.

Residents of the Loeriehof block of flats in Pretoria West want answers from the Tshwane metro as to why they owe the metro almost R71 000 for services not rendered.

According to residents’ representative, Elsabe van Zyl, they have been paying their accounts monthly and after a water pipe burst that took the metro about five months to repair they received an account of about R23 000 they had to pay.

“In December the body corporate paid the R23 000 and now we recently received a notice that our power will be cut because we owe the metro about R71 000 after we had paid them in December,” said Van Zyl.

She said she struggled for five months to rectify the problem with the metro about the leaking water pipe, until they received the account of R23 000.

“The water pipe leak was not from our side and I reported it to the metro but they did nothing. Now we are stuck with an account of such a huge amount and it is not right,” Van Zyl said.

She said they asked the metro to investigate the issue with the accounts but all they received was a notice that their power will be cut and no help was offered to solve the matter.

In the statement Loeriehof received, it stated they owe R45 639 for water alone and this is why residents are questioning the metro because they say it’s all the water that was wasted when the water pipe outside their building burst last year.

Van Zyl claimed metro electricity meter readers have not read their electricity correctly and not once have they asked the keys to the electricity box to do the reading.

“As residents of Loeriehof, we do not know what we should do to convince the metro to correct the account because it is not correct,” she said.

The metro could not give clear comment on the matter but said it would be investigated.
