Equestria residents are concerned about a new manhole in Glen Avenue, near Farm Road, that has been raised some 15 centimetres above the road, posing a threat to motorists in the area.
Anne-Marie Boshoff, who has lived in the area more than 12 years, said the manhole was installed about six months ago, when a new retirement village was built in the street.
“According to municipal rules, the builders of the retirement village were responsible for the stretch of road after the new buildings were complete. They did clean it up nicely, but now the manhole poses a serious threat to motorists using Glen Road,” Boshoff said.
The corner near the manhole, has a traffic circle, which makes the raised manhole even more dangerous, according to her. Boshoff said it appears as though the manhole is complete, which suggests to her that no one is planning to repair it.
“It has been left in a very neat and tidy manner, suggesting that whoever placed it there is not coming back to repair it,” she said.
According to Elsabé Louw, Democratic Alliance councillor of Ward 85, the manhole definitely poses a threat to motorists and she will follow up with Tshwane metro to address the situation.
“I will follow up on the situation and make sure the manhole is repaired, because it can be dangerous to road users,” Louw said.
Tshwane metro was not available for comment.
