Water supply nearly restored in east of Pretoria

DA councillor Karen Meyer said water is nearly completely restored in all the areas of the east of Pretoria after a pipe burst in Rand Water on Sunday. “Only certain parts are left without water but we believe it would be restored in the next two to three hours,” she said on Monday.

Water supply to the east of Pretoria has almost been completely restored by Monday morning after a pipe in Rand Water burst on Sunday, affecting the Bronberg reservoir.

Democratic Alliance councillor Karen Meyer from ward 44 said only a small part of Olympus was still left without water.

“The municipality started fixing the pipe at 14:00 on Sunday and by 19:00 it was completed, but time had to be giving for the reservoir to fill up again. The municipality deployed water bowsers to certain strategic areas,” she said.

She said the water supply was now being restored area by area as the reservoir was filling up.

“The municipality has to slowly open the pipes that provide the water supply to ensure that no pipe bursts again. Residents are urged to remain patient in the next two hours,” she said.

Rekord reported last Sunday that Erasmuskloof residents had muddy water running from their taps after the water reservoir in the east of Pretoria dried up.

Ward 83 DA councillor Francois Bekker said the reservoir dried up and water levels were very low. “Some residents had muddy water running form their taps due to this,” he said.

Water was restored the following Tuesday.
