Residents in the east of Pretoria are warned of fake police vehicles with occupants who attempted to break into a house on Monday night, Hi-Risk Unit said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Arthur Crewe said two fake police vehicles were spotted around 21:00 after a failed house robbery in Groenkloof.
“The suspects were busy forcing open a gate when the homeowner alerted us. Upon arriving, we spotted a Ford Bantam bakkie with fake Brooklyn police markings, blue lights and a canopy. It was accompanied by a white Toyota Corolla which had round blue lights on the roof,” Crewe told Rekord.
He said two men were in the bakkie and three others in the Toyota. Crewe said Hi-Risk Unit chased after the vehicles when they gave chase. However, the two bogus police cars disappeared in Waterkloof Ridge.
“Upon enquiring at the Brooklyn police, we found those cars did not belong to the police.” Meanwhile, a silver Toyota Corolla was also added to the alert list after its occupants tried to break into a house in Monument Park on Monday.
“We were alerted by a homeowner and after chasing the vehicle, it also disappeared in Waterkloof Ridge.”
Crewe urged the public to report such vehicles to 10111 or to contact Hi-Risk Unit on 086 170 7777. “This is a combined effort with the police to catch these criminals as they give the police a bad name.”
