A man was shot and wounded while fleeing from the police in Nellmapius.
His two accomplices escaped, spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said on Tuesday.
“The police patrol saw a suspicious car in the early hours of Sunday in Silverton and when they followed, the suspects began firing at the police,” he said.
“After a long chase (to Nellmapius), two suspects jumped out of the car and ran away. The third suspect also tried to escape but was shot in the upper body.”
The wounded man was recovering in hospital under police guard.
“He will be arrested for possession of stolen items as soon as he is discharged,” Sepato said.
Police found two stolen refrigerators, four laptop screens, two flat screen television sets, a microwave oven and a toy gun in the vehicle. The three apparently robbed an electric appliance store in Jazmyn Street, Silverton.
The search for the escaped pair continued, Sepato said.
