A Winterveldt father was shot and killed as his wife managed to survive a shot aimed at her abdomen in Winterveldt on Wednesday.
In a final act of sickening brutality, the couple’s two daughters aged 15 and 16 were raped.
This horrific scene occurred in Winterveldt on Wednesday around 02.00. Acting Loate station commander, Colonel Jan Nkomo said an armed robber broke into a house in Winterveldt, shot and killed the father, then shot and wounded the mother, and raped two girls aged 15 and 16.
Nkomo said two police officers who were on duty patrolling the area, received a message via radio control that three gunshots were heard in the area.
“The police officers proceeded to the address. When they got there, they found the girls’ father had been shot in both shoulders, and their mother was shot in the stomach, also lying in a pool of blood,” said Nkomo. The two girls were traumatised and crying uncontrollably.
More police backup and paramedics were called. The father, whose name is known to Rekord, was certified dead when paramedics arrived. The mother who was shot in the abdomen was rushed to hospital where she was admitted and placed in the intensive care unit.
“The suspect is at this stage still unknown, but police are following leads,” said Nkomo.
After the shooting and raping incidents, the suspect stole some valuables from the house and fled.
“Cases of murder, attempted murder, rape and house robbery are being investigated,” said Nkomo.
