Mamelodi East police detectives have arrested a 29-year-old man in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Tuesday afternoon.
Police were searching for the man in connection with a murder case that occurred in 2014. “The suspect was arrested at Mahube mall while waiting in a VW Golf in the parking lot. One firearm was on his waist while another in the front underneath the car mat. Preliminary investigations revealed the man could be key to a series of crimes in Mamelodi and surrounding areas,” Mamelodi police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe said.
Police have also established that the Golf was linked to a business robbery in “Cyferskuil” and that the man had several pending cases against him.
Mbewe said police believed the suspect could have been waiting for companions during his arrest and were calling on anyone with information to contact Mamelodi East police at 012 815 7080.
The suspect was facing charges of possessing unlicensed firearms, ammunition and attempted murder. He is due to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court soon.
