Two police officers were arrested on Friday on charges of corruption.
Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, Gauteng provincial police spokesperson said: “Two officers, a reservist constable and a constable stationed at the Akasia police station were arrested after a tip-off.”
“The two officers were supposed to investigate a charge of domestic violence. While on the case, they asked the man they were investigating for a bribe to drop the investigation. The man gave them some money, but they said they wanted to collect more during a next meeting,” she said.
Makhubela said the man informed the Akasia police of what had happened. “The police then decided to set a trap for the two officers at Wonderpark Mall, where the man was supposed to hand over the rest of the money. He arrived as sheduled and as he handed them the money, where they were promptly arrested.”
Makhubela said the two officers will be charged with corruption and are expected to appear in court on Monday.
