Water tanks available for Waterkloof Ridge

Three water tanks have been arranged for the residents of Waterkloof Ridge, since the area is currently without water.

Waterkloof Ridge is without water again, after residents were without water for three days this

week and barely had water for a day.

According to Bronwyn Engelbrecht, DA ward councillor of the area, Tshwane metro arranged for

three water tanks for the area, where frustrated residents could collect water for the time being.

“There is one tank in Erudanus Street, next to the park, another is on the corner of Johan Rissik and

Carina streets and the third tank is in Rigel Avenue, between Lyra and Cygnus streets. Residents are

welcome to come and collect water at these points,” she said.

Rekord reported earlier that the water supply of the area was interrupted on Wednesday, when a

water leak was discovered at the Carina reservoir.

“It is unacceptable that these residents have to struggle without water again, after their water

supply had barely been restored on Friday,” Engelbrecht said.

“The biggest problem is that the metro is not maintaining the infrastructure and these old water

pipes are in desperate need of replacement.”

According to Selby Bokaba, spokesperson for the Tshwane metro, the water shortage was caused by

a leaking 250mm pipe.

“The water had to be turned off while technicians repair the pipe. The problem is that the leak on

the pipe needs to be found before it can be repaired. To find the leak, the technicians need to

excavate and search for the leak, and this takes time.”

He added that the metro apologises to residents affected . “This was not caused by old

infrastructure. Sometimes such things just happen. When it comes to service delivery, we try and

sort out these issues in only a few hours, as quickly as possible. We apologise to residents affected

during the repair process.”
