A house robbery at Amberfield Ridge Estate in Rooihuiskraal North turned violent in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said, at 04:10 on Sunday morning, four armed men entered the house and tied up the residents.
“The owners woke up and heard a noise coming from the kitchen. As the man and his girlfriend entered the kitchen, they were accosted by two of the robbers, who overpowered them and tied them up.”
Selepe said as the thieves continued to loot the house the man’s mother unaware of the robbers in the house was heading to the bathroom. When they saw her they started shooting at her, hitting her in the back of the head.
When the estate’s security guards arrived at the scene three of the suspects had fled, leaving one of their cohorts behind. The security guards arrested the man before calling the police. The woman was rushed to hospital to be treated.
“The thieves stole two TVs, two laptops, a hard drive and jewellery, to the value of R67 000. The arrested man is due to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” said Selepe.
