A Mamelodi man has been arrested for a five-month-old attempted murder.
He caught the attention of Mamelodi policemen on Tuesday where he was sitting in a parked blue Volkswagen Golf at Mahube shopping centre, spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe said.
“Police found two unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the car. One firearm was on his waist while another was at his feet, under the mat.”
Mbewe said investigations linked the 29-year-old man to a shooting in November last year that saw someone being wounded. Police believed the detained man could also be involved in a string of other crimes in and around Mamelodi.
“Police established that the Golf was linked to a business robbery in Cyferskuil and the suspect had several pending cases in his name.”
Police believed the man was waiting for accomplices when he was arrested, he said.
“We are calling for anyone with more information to call the Mamelodi East police station on 012-815-7080.”
The man was expected to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court soon, Mbewe said.
