Tshwane metro has started cutting overgrown grass in Daspoort. The overgrown grass had been a problem for residents since people’s homes were broken into.
Following numerous complaints by residents over months about the problem and Rekord reporting about it, the metro has started cutting the overgrown grass.
“I saw the workers cutting the grass yesterday but there are still some areas they have not reached yet,” Daspoort resident, Claudia Burger said.
She said on Tuesday burglars had tried to break into her house again, even after increased security at the home.
Metro workers started working on Tuesday and have cut most of the grass behind residents’ homes near the Mabopane Highway.
“The side of the highway is now clear with the grass being cut, we hope once all the overgrown grass is cut the area will be more open and criminals will no longer be able to hide in the grass,” said Nico Engelbrecht.
He said for months they have had problems with crime in the area and criminals hiding out in the overgrown grass. There were several other areas in Pretoria Gardens, Booysens and surrounding neighbourhoods where the metro still needs to cut the grass.
“We are pleased with what the metro is doing and we do not always want to go to the media before they start acting on our problems. When we call them they should take us seriously and work with us to make sure our community is safe,” said Engelbrecht.
