Artist still waiting to be paid
An artist from Mamelodi is still awaiting his payment for a concert in December last year.
Popular Mamelodi artist Thabo Mahlare of Behind Bars-fame said he was still waiting to be paid R15 000 for performing at the annual Motsepe Foundation Christmas concert.
Mahlare claimed he performed at the concert in Mamelodi last year on 16 December and said he was still waiting to be paid. He was part of a line-up that included artists such as Zahara, DJ Cleo, Heavy Kay, Micasa, DJ Sbu, Big Nuz, Lulo Cafe, Mafikizolo, DJ Kent, DJ Naves, Sphe and Berita.
“I was supposed to be paid R15 000. I submitted my invoice after the performance and followed up several times, but I am still waiting for the payment,” Mahlare said this week.
“I find it hard to understand how the organisers of the event could invite artist, agree on a fee, but at the end of the day they don’t keep their promises. The organisers are now ignoring me as if I did not perform at the concert.” Other artist like Zahara and Lira were paid more than R50 000, but the organisers allegedly find it hard to pay R15 000.
Over 15 000 children from poor communities across all nine provinces were invited to attend and were showered with Christmas gifts during the Christmas festivals that were held since 2008.
Every year Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe donates Christmas gifts to charity organisations in townships like Mamelodi, Hammanskraal, Soshanguve, Mmakau, Temba and Atteridgeville.
The event organisers have failed to comment despite being given a chance.
