Child assaulted by peers for R2
Teaser: A shy and reserved ten-year-old child from Eersterust was assaulted for R2 on Friday afternoon.
A ten-year-old child’s elbow is broken after four of his peers assaulted him on Friday afternoon – simply to take R2 from the boy.
Sherel Keppler, an Eersterust resident, said on Saturday that her son Terwin was playing video games at a shop opposite their house at 16:00 when the four other children approached him.
She said they wanted the rest of his video game money, which amounted to R2. The group of children started to fight and forced Terwin to the ground.
When Terwin fell to the floor the four children started kicking and hitting him. The assault resulted in a broken elbow and a busted lower lip.
The Keppler family only realised that Terwin’s elbow was broken when they sought medical assistance at the Tshwane District hospital on Saturday.
Irwin Keppler, the father, said when they got home at around 16:30 on Friday the shop owner informed him what had happened.
“I called Terwin outside to ask him what had happened. When he came out of the house he was holding onto his elbow but we assumed it got bruised during the assault,” he said.
Irwin said he did not have an aggressive child and that he was only interested in playing video games. “He is shy and reserved.”
He said after Terwin’s arm was placed in a cast they would go to the Eersterust police where the Keppler family will lay a charge of assault.
Sherel said the parents of the four children who attached her son should take responsibility for their children’s actions.
