Four nabbed over cigarettes
Police arrested four men on Monday night after 2 000 cartons of contraband cigarettes were found in their possession.
Four men were caught with more than 2 000 cartons of contraband in their possession in Pretoria West on Monday night.
Spokesperson Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said the arrest came after police
received a complaint of two cars driving recklessly on WF Nkomo Street around 23h49.
“The members rushed to the scene and saw a white Toyota double- and a white single cab, driving at high speed. After stopping them, police searched the bakkies and found 2 302 cartons of Chelsea cigarettes,” Mogale said.
She said the cigarettes, valued at an estimated R680 000, were apparently being transported to Midrand from Mokopane, Limpopo.
She said investigations revealed that both bakkies were reported stolen in Brackendowns, Johannesburg and Haartebeespoort this month and last month.
“The four suspects will appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of illegal cigarettes and possession of suspected stolen vehicles.”
