A woman shot dead by her ex-fiancé at her workplace on Wednesday morning has been named as Nicolene Schreuder (35).
Schreuder was the personal assistant of the director of Cura Health Insurance in Moraletapark, east of Pretoria.
She has been working for the company for the past eight months.
Schreuder’s ex-fiancé, known as Dawie, came to her office around 09:00 and asked to see her.
The receptionist called Schreuder and when she walked downstairs he shot her three times. She was declared dead when the ambulance arrived.
The shooter fled on his motorcycle.
Schreuder’s boss, Rudolph Ackermann said: “We are still shocked. We have closed the business for the rest of the day and we have sent all our staff for counselling.”
He said Schreuder was always friendly and an excellent employee. “She was friendly and chirpy.”
Sources told Rekord that Schreuder had been caught up in a turbulent relationship for the past year.
“Dawie abused her and she kicked him out of her apartment around two weeks ago. He also shot her dogs as a way to revenge himself,” a source said.
This could not be confirmed by Garsfontein police spokesperson Dave Miller.
He said the search for the killer was continuing by mid-afternoon.
“I can confirm that no one has been arrested yet.”
