Hijackers drive off with a 3-year-old
Police are looking for two suspects who hijacked a Volvo at a surgery and drove off with a three-year-old boy who was later found unharmed.
Two suspects drove off with a three-year-old boy during a hijacking on Wednesday in Soshanguve. The boy was later dropped off safely in Winterveldt, police said on Thursday.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said the two suspects drove off with the boy after his father left him in a car for few minutes.
“A 28-year-old man was driving to a surgery with his three children, one aged 12 and twins aged three. Upon arrival, he left two kids in the car and took one of the twins inside the surgery. A few minutes later, two men appeared at the car and sprayed the 12-year old with pepper spray. The child immediately ran into the surgery and called for help. Meanwhile the two suspects got into the car and drove off. The father came rushing out but the suspects had already left with the car.”
Nkoadi said apparently the hijackers were unaware of the child in the back of the car. “The child was dropped off in front of a house in Winterveldt where the homeowner found the child. The homeowner then took the child to the nearest police station where he was reunited with his father.”
A case of kidnapping and hijacking was opened and investigations have started. “Police urge all the parents and guardians never to leave their kids in a car or unattended in a public area. The registration number of the stolen Volvo is HWT 524 GP,” Nkoadi said.
