Illegal diamond dealers busted
Five men were arrested for dealing in illegal diamonds after they were found with a 33.3 carat diamond in Montana, the Hawks said.
Five men were nabbed after they allegedly sold unpolished diamonds in Montana, the Hawks said.
Spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the arrest on Tuesday afternoon came after police received information about men selling a 33.3 carat unpolished diamond.
Muluadzi said a sting operation was conducted. “The five suspects were found in possession of a diamond worth R5.9 million,” he said.
Mulaudzi could not confirm where the diamond had initially come from. The men, aged between 32 and 62, were expected to appear in court soon on charges of dealing in unpolished diamonds.
