Lack of public transport aggravates commuters

Commuters are aggravated by the lack of proper public services like buses in the Sinoville area.

An irate commuter is fed up with the constant lack of bus services in the Sinoville area.

Vusi Kokela has been living in Sinoville since 2003 and although he had experienced a lack of bus services in the past, it has escalated to an all-time high.

“My children are struggling to get to school in the morning due to municipal buses not pitching up or coming late. I then have to take off at work to take them to school. This is unacceptable. We cannot rely on our bus services any longer,” he said.

According to Kokela, the Sinoville bus is scheduled to arrive at 05:40 and the next stop is at 06:15 during the week. “It is not only me complaining about the situation. Many commuters must rely on taxi’s to transport them to work when the buses do not show up.”

He said two of his daughters travel from Sinoville to Pretoria Girls High and the other to Pro Arte School. His eldest daughter travels to the University of Pretoria and they all rely on public transport to get them to their destinations.

“Myself and three other commuters requested reasons from the public transport division about the lack of proper public transport services. An official informed us there are no extra funds to employ a substitute if a regular driver is off sick.”

Kokela alleged the new buses the city had bought are still stationary due to the lack of funds to pay for roadworthy test.

Goitsemang Molaeng from Tshwane metro denied the allegations and claimed it to be malicious. She said the metro will provide official feedback later on Tuesday.
