NEWSFLASH: Missing Centurion teens found
Two teenage girls had the community up all night after they disappeared from Eldoglen Estates, Centurion, on Monday night.
Two Centurion teenagers have been found unharmed after they disappeared from Eldoglen Estate on Monday night.
Tasmiyah Khalik (17) and her friend Sahabat Ali (18) were last seen at 17:30 in a beige Mercedes Benz and as many as 500 people joined in a search for them.
Tasmiyah’s father”, Zaheer, said the girls were found unharmed in Valhalla on Tuesday morning by a resident, who alerted the police.
He could not say why the girls disappeared as they were in hospital for trauma counselling and tests.
“I never got a chance to get the full story from my daughter yet. I am very fortunate to be in a community that is so helpful. It has been so phenomenal and I am proud of the community and grateful for everything they have done,” he told Rekord.
Director of the Eldoglen security Kamal Jaffer said security companies also assisted in the search.
“The news spread on social media and many people came out to help. Some people drove as far as Johannesburg and even Bethlehem in the Free State in search of these girls,” he said.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before where people can be so united to help a family,” he said.
Rumours spread on social media that the girls’ Mercedes Benz was found ransacked in Diepsloot, an informal settlement just outside Centurion.
Zaheer dismissed these rumours.
“The problem with social media is that things spin out of control. That was false information. They were found with the car.”
Zaheer said the Mercedes Benz belonged to his daughter’s friend who was with her.
