Cops blame phone problem on loadshedding
Pretoria West police claim their phones are not working due to loadshedding.
Pretoria West police have blamed load-shedding for their telephones not being in working order at all times.
Spokesperson Constable Lerato Ngomane said the problem was a technical one, caused by recent loadshedding.
“We are aware that our phones are causing problems and we always attended to problems as they happen. You will agree that loadshedding is a nationwide problem. Unfortunately in our case it does not only affect electricity, but also our telephones.”
Rekord recently reported that the Pretoria West police station telephones were not being answered. Residents had to call the emergency line and could not get through to the police station.
Ngomane said the police station was working on the problem to see how Telkom could assist.
Residents said not getting hold of the police was a daily problem. Ngomane denied this, saying it was not an everyday thing that the phones were not working.
“It is only when loadshedding strikes that our phones are not working and we make a point to have Telkom fix it.”
She apologised to residents for any inconvenience and gave the following alternative numbers for the police station:
• Station commander 082-822-8343
• Vispol commander 079-895-0666
• 071-675-6444 Pretoria West CBD (sector 1)
• 072-675-6445 and 0716756447 Danville, Phillip Nel Park, Kwaggasrand, Elandspoort, Westview and Westpark (sector 2)
• Lotus gardens 071-675-6448 and 071-675-6449 (sector 3)
People could also use the emergency service number 10111 and when using cellphones 112, which is free. Just follow the voice prompt.
