Farmworker beaten to death
Five men are on the run after they murdered a 30-year-old farm worker during a robbery on Tuesday night in Cullinan.
A 30-year-old farm worker was beaten to death in Cullinan on Tuesday night when five armed men assaulted him, police said.
Spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe said the killers apparently gained entry to the farm by breaching the bottom of an electric fence around the property by 20:00.
“They approached the building where the foreman worker was sleeping with his wife. His door was locked and these five men broke it open and dragged the man out of the house,” she said.
She said the intruders repeatedly hit the man on the head while his wife hid in the house.
He died on the scene, Van der Merwe said.
“The five suspects approached the main house that is only used on weekends and stole electric equipment including a plasma TV and DVD player. They fled the scene.”
Van der Merwe could not confirm the value of the stolen items.
She appealed to the public to come forward with information.
“People should lookout for these men as they are armed and dangerous. Anyone who can assist can contact the Cullinan police station on 012-734-0751.”
