A vigilant Eersterust police officer arrested a man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm on Wednesday night.
The armed 40-year-old man argued with another man in the client service centre located at the police station when the officer noticed an object resembling a firearm sticking out.
Constable Sam Shibambo, spokesperson for the Eersterust police, said the officer confronted the man and found the gun to be illegal.
“The police officer asked him to put his firearm slowly on the floor. As the man was executing the order two small plastic bags containing dagga fell out of his pocket,” Shibambo said.
The officer immediately arrested the man and requested he produce a firearm licence but he was unable to produce it.
“He was detained for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and the possession of dagga,” he said.
He will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate court soon.
