Suggestions for the mayor
Residents of Tshwane have a few things they want the mayor to address in his annual state-of-the-capital address on Thursday.
Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa will deliver the state-of-the-capital address at Freedom Park on Thursday.
He is expected to focus on current socio-economic issues of the metro.
Citizens of Tshwane have had a lot to say on what they want Ramokgopa to address on the day.
Twenty-four-year-old Lunga Peter from Soshanguve said the mayor needed to address the issue of equal representation in the workplace.
“Let us not only have black people in municipal offices. There should be equal numbers of people representing different races and ages in the workplace, this way a lot of stereotypes can be avoided,” he said.
Lindiwe Maselela from Mamelodi voiced a need for youth empowerment.
“A lot of youth in the city are unemployed. I am not saying ‘Hire us’, I am simply saying create more youth empowerment programmes that will be beneficial to both the unemployed and the city,” she said.
Nthabiseng Bereng wanted more attention to the equal distribution of wealth.
“People who have been working for such long periods that they have actually passed their retirement age, need to be let go to make way for recent graduates who desperately need jobs,” she said.
She said that government internship programmes should be for a certain period of time and should not be extended.
“I have seen people who have been doing their internships in municipal institutions for more than a year, that is not how it is supposed to be done,” she concluded.
Citizens who have suggestions for the mayor can email them to SOCA2015@tshwane.gov.za.
Members of the public could watch the state-of-the-capital address live on Tshwane TV, DSTV Channel 262 or at a public viewing venue at Sammy Marks from 11:00.
