Police looking for 2 men after shoot-out in Atteridgeville
Two suspects were arrested while the other two escaped during a shoot-out in Atteridgeville.
Police are on a manhunt for two men who managed to escape during a shootout in Marabastad (informal settlement), Atteridgeville, last Friday, police said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said two men that escaped during a shootout are still on the run, while two others are in police custody as they were arrested on Friday at the scene.
“On Friday at around 21:30, police were tipped off by locals of Marabastad, when a Toyota Tazz that was reported stolen in Bronkhorstspruit was spotted. Police arrived and followed the vehicle which had four people inside. As they following the vehicle, they flicked the lights and blew the siren to alert the men to stop the car, but the men started shooting at them instead. The shooting continued and as the suspects started getting away, they ran over a man, who was next to the road and smashed into an empty shack,” he said.
“Two of them managed to escape after the crash, while the other two were stopped in their tracks by police.”
Mufamadi said the two men were detained at the Soshanguve police station. A case of theft and attempted murder has been opened.
“The man hit by the suspects’ car is recovering in hospital. No one was injured during the shooting,” he said.
