A woman accused of crashing into two brothers in Centurion in 2011, killing one, has been acquitted on a charge of manslaughter.
Michael and Albert Lenting, aged 16 and 15 were walking along the road outside Unitas hospital in 2011 when a car lost control, hitting them on the sidewalk against the palisade fence.
Albert was pinned under the vehicle and seriously injured and Michael died of his injuries a week later.
According to reports, only one witness – domestic worker Olga Monama – came forward, testifying that Rina Bekker drove the car while talking on her cellphone.
There were however inconsistencies in her testimony and Bekker was acquitted of the charges.
