Woman arrested for attempted murder
A Hercules woman was arrested on Tuesday night after she fired a shot at her ex-boyfriend.
A 40-year-old woman is facing charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm after she fired a shot at her ex-boyfriend in Hercules on Tuesday night, police said.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said police responded to a complaint at a plot after the woman attacked her ex-boyfriend. Dlamini said police arrived at the scene and the ex-boyfriend handed the firearm to them.
“He alleged that he was confronted by his ex-girlfriend, who pulled a firearm from her handbag and fired a shot at him following an argument,” he said.
He said the shot missed and the ex-boyfriend managed to disarm the woman.
The woman was arrested at the scene and will appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court soon.
Dlamini said police recovered another unlicensed firearm on Tuesday night in Atteridgeville after they searched a suspicious Toyota Quantum during a routine patrol.
He said two men were arrested after a pistol with 20 rounds of ammunition was found in a bag.
“All the confiscated firearms will be sent for ballistics examination, as they might have been involved in serious and violent crimes.”
