Workers stopped with immediate effect
Community members march to the councillor’s house.
Twelve workers from the ‘Vat Alles’ cleaning campaign in Ward 67 had to stop working with immediate effect.
This comes after angry residents marched to councillor Dorcas Mathe’s house to seek help and launch their complaints.
They claimed they did not understand the employment procedure.
They also complained about the deputy chairperson of Ward 67, Oupa Shirinda, who threatened to remove the Nkandla Informal Settlement.
Another complaint was that two community members were beaten with sjamboks for raising questions about the employment of 12 people in the ‘Vat Alles’ cleaning campaign in Ward 67 by Silus Moselakgomo’s people.
Clearance Malaza, a community member, said: “We are not fighting with the ward councillor. We have elected her to represent us and we want her to help us.
“No one was informed about the employment procedure and out of 12 people who were employed, six don’t stay in Ward 67.”
Chief Whip Jabulani Mabona, when addressing the residents, said the 12 people should stop working on the project with immediate effect until further investigation.
He also promised that he will look into the matter himself.
Other employees of ‘Vat Alles’ cleaning campaign who wished not to be named claimed that Silus Moselakgomo has threatened not to renew their contracts because they were siding with the residents.
