Tshwane executive mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa announced the increase in rates, taxes and services for the metro area on Friday.
An increase in municipal rates, taxes and services was announced by Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa on Friday.
Tabling his 2015/16 budget at a special council meeting, Ramokgopa announced the following average annual increases:
– Water 13,5%
– Electricity 12,0%
– Property rates 8,0%
– Sanitation 9,0% and

“The city projects an increase of 14,2% from Eskom and 13,5% from Rand Water,” he said.
He said for property owners in general, the first R75 000 value of residential property was exempted from rates.
Pensioners and the physically and mentally disabled qualified for rebates subject to the metro’s policy conditions.
“We remain committed to supporting indigent households within the Tshwane area and we will continue with this programme beyond the 2014/15 financial year,” the mayor said.
“In the 2015/16 financial year, R511 has been committed to each indigent household per month, which equates to a total subsidy package of R737 million for the city.”
Registered indigents qualified for the following free basic services:
– An exemption from the payment for refuse removal and property taxes, irrespective of the value of the property; and
– A grant of 100kWh of electricity and 12kl of water.
