Six arrested for possession of housebreaking equipment
Six people were arrested in two separate incidents with housebreaking implements.
Two groups of men were arrested in two separate incidents when they were caught in possession of housebreaking equipment in the east of Pretoria on Thursday, police said.
Spokesperson Captain Collette Weilbach said six alleged housebreakers came to the end of their tether after they were arrested even before they could commit their crime.
“The crime prevention unit of Brooklyn police were busy with patrols in Hazelwood at 10:00 when they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle with three occupants. The police stopped the blue Mazda Sting and searched it. A crowbar, hammer, screwdrivers, gloves, and other housebreaking equipment were found inside the vehicle. The three men aged 41, 40 and 30 from Alexandra were immediately arrested. It was later discovered they were arrested before and two of them still have a pending Brooklyn housebreaking case against them,” she said.
“An hour-and-a-half later the crime prevention unit of Garsfontein police spotted a white Toyota Conquest panel van with false number plates. They stopped and searched the vehicle in Rubida Road in Lynnwood Ridge. Three men aged 21, 22 and 25 from Mamelodi were arrested when housebreaking implements were found in their possession. All three also have pending cases against them for other housebreakings committed in Pretoria.”
Weilbach said the six men will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court and the Hatfield Community Court on Friday. The South African Police Service sends out a strong message to criminals that the police are out in full force to prevent crime.
