No reports of children being abducted

People are up in arms about messages doing the rounds on child abductions, which have turned out to be only rumours.

There has been text messages and Whatsapp messages doing the rounds over the weekend, claiming that children will be abducted across South Africa on International Missing Children’s Day on Monday 25 May 2015.

According to Nicky Rheeder from Missing Children SA, no reports have been made of children being abducted on playgrounds or anywhere else.

“Around this time, we find that a lot of other stories from the past come up, but nine out of 10 times, it will be a hoax. People inform us of situations like this immediately, and we have not received any kind of indication that children will be abducted today as part of International Missing Children’s Day.”
