Residents of Mabeshane in Mamelodi East, section SNS, have decided to clean up a dangerous passage, following complaints about robberies and that the passage was a crime hotspot. The passage is used by many residents to and from work and to get to taxis.
“Many residents use the passage to get to work or board taxis and criminals lie in wait to rob them,” resident Sam Seema said.
On Saturday residents took up spades and started removing illegally dumped rubbish around the passage.
“We had a meeting with residents and decided to clean up the passage and prevent the crime and illegal dumping in the passage,” said Seema.
“Residents have done a great job by cleaning up the hotspot. We will no longer have complaints about the passage,” Dumisani Maseko said.
Residents have vowed to take action against anyone littering in the passage.
